To start with, Saturday dawned beautifully
and stayed fine all day and everyone from
the MRCA mucked in to assist where needed to
make the shoot a success.
Statistically, we had 63 shooters, 42 of
whom E-registered prior and the rest paying
cash on the day. Considering the new split
digital-analogue registration system and
biblical flooding until the eve of the
shoot, I consider it a great result and the
feel of the event was of great camaraderie
and cooperation. Shooting conditions were
perfect.
The category winners were Greg Collins (USI
Rifle Club) with a Lithgow LA101 in a
chassis with a Bushnell Rimfire scope (score
150/150 +8/8 skirmish) in Optical class and
Marcus O'Dean (RAE-CMF Rifle Club) in Iron
sights, using a SMLE N02Mk4 Training Rifle
modified with a Rawson aperture sight and
blade front sight (score 144/150 and 8/8
skirmish).
The winner of the Lithgow - ZeroTech
Rifle/scope package grand prize Raffle was
Justin Philips from SSAA (joining MRCA-RAE)
who is over the moon and starting on his
shooting skills journey with his son.
THANKYOUs
The MRCA members I would like to
particularly thank are:
Warwick Sharpe (medallion production
and for the thankless task of keeping me on
task when it seemed to be overwhelming)
David Morris and Kris Saunders, who
sorted out registration prior to and on the
day of the event; it was a detailed
thankless job and I appreciated two military
men's calm methodical treatment of the task.
Doug Meaney for his Range Officer-ing
for quite a few details.
John Lewis and Adam Bell for endless
back and forward "logistics" from the target
shed and for presenting the Horseshoe
complex in a beautiful condition.
Ron Hawkins, Fiona Oliver, Dick
Whitehead and Scott Hutchinson for
coordinating and running the barbecue. Rob
and Michael Lowe for drinks logistics.
Arthur Johnston who was Chief Range
Officer that day and always.
Also to Mark Lewis as RO and Vic
Summers for overall ANZAC Rifle Range
Safety on the day. Also Phil Oliver was
everywhere filling gaps.
Roy and Margaret Finney for their
general work on the day.
James Hoffman for producing a video
record – link below
Special mention. Initiating
an event like this and following it through
to the conclusion was something that I could
not have achieved without the great
practical and moral support of two men; Warwick
Sharpe and David Morris, who worked
really hard to ground and reassure me
throughout the lead up to this event when I
was semi-functional.
I would, on behalf of the MRCA, its
members and the visitors on the day, like to
sincerely thank the major sponsors of this
shoot; Lithgow Arms (Chris Burton and staff)
and TSA Australia (Matt Cirson, Ben Clarke
and others) - distributors of Lithgow rifles
and Designers-Importers of the amazing
ZeroTech Optics brand in Australia.
Without such generous sponsorship and
support freely given to our clubs and
associations, we could not hope to have
events with such success and great feeling.
Thank you again and as a final salute to
the day, one of our keen shooters, James
Hoffman, for producing a short video of the
day to share with all participants.
